Moving WhatsApp Groups to Signal

Moving from WhatsApp to Signal is as simple as creating a profile on the latter by entering your phone number and then uninstalling the former. However, transferring chats from WhatsApp and Signal is not supported natively. This could be one of the reasons why many users continue to use the Facebook-owned app. However, there is a simple workaround for moving your WhatsApp groups to the Signal app. These are equally applicable to iOS and Android users.

Before we begin, it is crucial to understand that the workaround is only relevant to switching WhatsApp groups to Signal. This does not allow you to transfer your WhatsApp conversations to Signal. It also cannot be used to migrate existing WhatsApp group discussions to the Signal app.

How to Transfer WhatsApp Groups to Signal

The steps for moving WhatsApp groups to Signal on your Android or iPhone are listed below. To ensure a smooth transition, make sure you have the most recent version of the Signal app.

1. Open the Signal app on your phone.
2. If you have an Android phone, hit the three dots menu in the top-right corner of the screen, then tap the New Group option. On an iPhone, you may do this by clicking the pencil icon in the top-right corner of the screen.
3. You have the option of selecting some of your group members or using the Skip button. You can add members to your group later.
4. Give your organization a name now. This might be the same name you'd like to transfer from WhatsApp to Signal.
5. A pop-up dialogue box will now encourage you to invite friends via a link. Simply click the Enable and Share Link button in the pop-up box.
6. This will bring up a menu with options for sharing your group link. Select Copy from the drop-down option.
7. Open the WhatsApp group you want to migrate to Signal.
8. Copy the group link from Signal and paste it here.

This will allow members of your WhatsApp group to transfer to your freshly established Signal group. After you've moved all of your members to your Signal group, you can disable the link you've activated. This will help prevent strangers from joining your group.
